Celebrities Defend Selena Gomez After Tearful Trump Video
Several high-profile celebrities have backed Selena Gomez after she was slammed for criticizing President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
From Sharon Stone to Whoopi Goldberg, many A-listers spoke out after seeing the backlash to Gomez’s emotional plea.
In a since-deleted video posted to her Instagram account, the Only Murders in the Building actress cried as she lamented people being deported by the new Trump administration.
“I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked,” she said to her followers on January 27. “The children, I don’t understand. I wish I could do something.” Gomez is half-Mexican on her father’s side, and also produced a documentary called Living Undocumented, which featured undocumented immigrants in America.
Newsweek contacted Gomez’s representatives by email for comment.
Following her emotional video, Gomez was slammed for her views, including by U.S. Senate hopeful Sam Parker, who ran a failed bid to represent Utah in 2018 at the federal level.
Flavor Flav, a hip-hop icon and one half of the group Public Enemy, wrote on X: “Team Selena Gomez. Again. That woman is always so brave to share her truth,,, and so many are quick to bully her.”

Actress Stone commented on Gomez’s video, writing: “Oh baby. Thank you for your care, empathy in a cruel world is tough. Take care.”
The View co-host Goldberg addressed Homan’s comments on Tuesday’s episode of the daytime panel TV show.
“It’s now a reality show, this is the new reality show,” Goldberg said.
Fox News anchor Geraldo Rivera also weighed in on the debate.

Embattled comedian Russell Brand, who has been accused of multiple instances of alleged sexual assault, also supported Gomez.
“I think@selenagomez is allowed to have an authentic reaction to this subject; it’s a personal experience. Navigating how to express yourself on social media can be quite difficult,” he wrote on X.
Former CNN anchor Don Lemon also defended Gomez in a video posted to his social media.
“So now we live in a time where Selena Gomez, even though she is you know a wealthy, she can’t have an opinion? She can’t post online, how she feels about deportations and immigration without being made fun of by the far right? Or the MAGA folks?” he began.
