Taylor Swift calls on her fans — and 282 million Instagram followers — to vote
“I wanted to remind you guys to vote the people who most represent YOU into power,” Swift wrote.
Taylor Swift is encouraging fans in Tennessee and other Super Tuesday states to cast their votes for the presidential primaries.
The world’s most famous pop star issued the call in an Instagram story post to her 282 million followers Tuesday morning, just before the site experienced a temporary outage.
wrote. “If you haven’t already, make a plan to vote today.” The post linked off to Vote.org.
Swift’s adopted home state of Tennessee is one of 16 states and one territory with elections on Tuesday, where more than a third of all GOP delegates are at stake.
It’s a notable day for races down the ballot as well, with primaries in 115 House districts.
Swift has yet to endorse a presidential candidate this year, though she endorsed Joe Biden over Donald Trump in 2020. She has voiced her support for voter registration in past elections.
The pop star’s first public political steps were in 2018 when she endorsed Tennessee Democrats Phil Bredesen for the Senate and Rep. Jim Cooper for the House. While Bredesen lost to Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn, Swift’s support pushed the campaign into the national spotlight.
