IGA SWIATEK TARGETS ‘NEW GOALS’ FOR 2025, REVEALS AREA SHE ‘PROGRESSED A LOT’ IN THIS YEAR AFTER ‘PRETTY PERFECT’ START

Iga Swiatek finishes the 2024 tennis season ranked at No. 2 in the world rankings behind Aryna Sabalenka. She won all five of her titles in the season before Wimbledon, and has spoken about her “new goals” ahead of 2025. Swiatek has also reflected on the area in which she “progressed a lot”. Swiatek is set to start her 2025 campaign at the United Cup, the team event which begins on December 27.

Swiatek had a season of two halves, with all five of her titles coming before Wimbledon.

After winning the French Open for a fourth time, she was beaten in the semi-finals of the Olympic Games, where she was a strong favourite for gold, and then lost in the quarter-finals of the US Open
She changed coaches shortly afterwards, bringing in Wim Fissette, and didn’t play again until the WTA Finals, where she failed to make it out of the group stage.
Swiatek’s season ended at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals as Poland lost to Italy in the semi-finals.
She will start next year at No. 2 in the world rankings, behind Aryna Sabalenka.
“I’m going to start the new season with some new goals, and I’m already looking forward to it,” she said after the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.

“Because we haven’t had time with Wim to practice a lot. So it’s going to be nice to try that.”
Swiatek hired Fissette, Naomi Osaka’s former coach, after parting company with Tomasz Wiktorowski in October.
Swiatek won four of her five Grand Slam titles, and 19 of her 22 career titles, under Wiktorowski.
Asked what she hopes to carry from 2024 into the new season, Swiatek added: “Well, the experience, I would say. I think this year it was easier for me to play as No. 1 and with a target on my back.
