Robert Griffin III Slams Fever Head Coach Over Caitlin Clark Fail vs. Sky
The Indiana Fever looked like they were on their way to defeating the Chicago Sky for a third time this season. With a 15-point lead in the third quarter, victory was within reach.
While Fever guard Caitlin Clark was having yet another great game, she took noticeably less shots during the fourth quarter, during which Chicago and Sky forward Angel Reese, who scored a career-high 25 points, closed the gap.
With .2 seconds left in the game and down by one, Clark inbounded the ball instead of going for the game-winning shot, a decision that incensed former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III.
RG3 sent a strong message to Fever head coach Christie Sides after the game. He posted, “Caitlin Clark should have taken the last shot. That’s why you have her. For moments like that. Period.”
Griffin’s post racked up over 6,000 likes and numerous fans agreed with his statement. However, others argued there was no time for a legal shot, that Clark had no choice but to pass the ball.
While it would’ve been absolutely iconic for Clark to drill the game-winning shot as clock expired, better discipline from the team as a whole wouldn’t have put Clark in that position in the first place. The Fever lost 88-87.
Clark, who played the entire 40 minutes, finished shooting 5-of-11 from the field, 5-of-9 from deep, with six rebounds, four steals, and five turnovers. She broke a new single-game franchise record with 13 assist
