Iga Swiatek gets real on viral video of her crying, names her two toughest opponents
Swiatek was caught on camera crying in the gym following a thriller French Open win over Naomi Osaka.
Iga Swiatek admitted she was just “overwhelmed with emotions” following a thriller French Open second-round win over Naomi Osaka and that led to her viral video of crying in the gym after the match finished.
On Wednesday, defending French Open champion Swiatek was inches away from exiting the tournament in the second round as Osaka led 5-2 in the third set and had 0/30 on the Pole’s serve. But then, Swiatek managed to win the eighth game – save a match point in the ninth game – and win the match in three hours after winning five consecutive games from 2-5 down.
Later, Swiatek was caught on camera laying on the ground – with her eyes covered with her hands – and crying.
“Maybe I was crying because there are cameras on the gym. Well, just overwhelmed with emotions. I honestly thought that I’m going to be out of the tournament. Even though I felt something on court, it kind of hit me after. I was happy that I won, but I still felt like I was really on the edge. I just cried,” Swiatek admitted when asked about the situation following a third-round win over Marie Bouzkova.
Swiatek names Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina her toughest two opponents
During her post-match presser after a win over Bouzkova, Swiatek was also asked to name her two toughest opponents. To no one’s surprise, Swiatek named Sabalenka and Rybakina but also noted that Ons Jabeur – with whom she had a couple of big meetings in 2022 – was also a tricky opponent.
“Well, I think Elena and Aryna just because they are also consistent and they are improving kind of with me I feel. So, yeah, there are other players obviously doing that, but there is some rivalry between us, so yeah,” Swiatek said.
“I guess Ons it was always tricky. You had to really think on the court and adjust a bit more.”
Meanwhile, Swiatek plays against Anastasia Potapova in the French Open round-of-16.
