Coco Gauff returned to winning ways at the Wuhan Open, but the American continued to break records for all the wrong reasons.
Gauff’s Wuhan Open win was dominant in plenty of ways as the American dropped just 25 games across the tournament to lift the trophy.
The World No. 3 looked back to her best for much of the Chinese tournament, including a very impressive performance against Jessica Pegula in the final.
However, the star ended up capturing a disappointing record too during a Wuhan Open campaign littered with wins.
Coco Gauff hits over 400 double faults in back-to-back WTA seasons
Gauff has collected plenty of trophies in 2025, but there’s clearly one aspect of her game that is holding her back from the very top.
The American has struggled with her serve and double faults have become an unfortunate trademark of her game.
Gauff is often broken, which was bizarrely highlighted by Gauff and Jasmine Paolini producing 11 consecutive breaks of serve in the Wuhan Open semi-final.
The star has hit a heap of double faults across 2025, and it’s meant she’s picked up a record she will be none too happy about.
The American has hit 405 double faults in 2025, which is 125 more than Ekaterina Alexandrova in second place.
Gauff hitting the 400 mark for a second year in a row makes the star the first player to ever achieve the unfortunate streak.

Gauff has often excelled on the WTA’s Asian leg as she looks to build momentum for the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open.
The American won the China Open in 2024 and has now followed it up with another landmark China win in Wuhan
