A new poll conducted by YouGov and the Economist shows that Donald Trump’s approval rating has plummeted to 41% – and that’s lower than Trump’s own pick for ‘worst president in history.
Donald Trump has previously referred to Joe Biden as the ‘worst president in history’ in a number of speeches, but the YouGov/Economist poll shows that Biden was actually at a higher rating than Trump at this point in his presidency.
The poll found that just 41% of U.S. adult citizens approve of the job Trump has been doing, while 54% disapprove. Biden, on the other hand, was in positive territory at +11, according to the same poll.
The poll further found that support for Trump among Democrats was at a mere 7%, with Independents at 30%, and with Republicans, Trump’s approval rating was a fairly high 86%.
Support for the Trump administration is at 45% among men surveyed, while just 37% of women approve of the current government’s actions. Trump’s numbers have fallen especially on immigration, where his approval rating is -5, the poll found.
In January, when Trump began his second term, his job approval was in positive territory, with 49% of people approving of the president, vs. 43% who disapproved.
The YouGov/Economist poll was released on the heels of a Pew Research Center poll, which found Trump’s approval rating at a comparable 40% – lower than recent presidents’ ratings in the early months of their presidencies.
Looking back at the presidencies up to Ronald Reagan, the only other president who had a low approval rating in the first 100 days of presidency was Bill Clinton at 49% in April 1993.
The Pew Research Center poll also found that 59% of Americans disapprove of the tariff policy and 55% disagree with the sweeping federal cuts made by the Trump administration and Elon Musk with the Department of Government Efficiency.
Similarly, polls from 10 days ago showed that President Trump has broken his previous approval rating of negative 16% among independents and has dropped a whopping 8% to negative 22% in 2025, breaking “his own record.”
