There was not a lot for the Kansas City Chiefs to be happy about after their 22-19 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, which dropped their record to 5-5 on the 2025 NFL season. They ended Week 11 third place in the AFC West division and outside of the AFC playoff picture altogether.
Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 29-of-45 passes for 276 yards, one touchdown and one interception. His lone touchdown pass, a 21-yard strike to tight end Travis Kelce, gave the loss a silver lining. It marked the 84th total touchdown of Kelce’s career , passing Priest Holmes for the most in Chiefs franchise history.

Mahomes has been involved in nearly all 84 touchdowns, giving him arguably the best perspective on the personal habits that have earned Kelce a place in the history books. Both players have played their entire careers in Kansas City, sharing the field since 2017 and winning three Super Bowls in the process.
“He deserves it,” Mahomes said of Kelce after the game. “The work he puts in every day… It speaks to the person he is to go out there and break that record.”
Kelce finished the game β which his fiancee, Taylor Swift, was not there to see β with nine catches for 91 yards. The touchdown was the most important. It came on 3rd and 6 in the fourth quarter to put the Chiefs ahead 19-16. If he had not made the play, they likely would have had to settle for a field goal.
Kelce’s ability to step up in the clutch was another aspect of his personality that Mahomes praised in his postgame comments.
“It came at a big moment in the game, and that’s usually when (Kelce) makes those plays,” Mahomes said.
