BBC issues statement after complaints of ‘insensitive’ Kate Middleton cancer coverage
The Princess of Wales shared her health issues in a video statement last month. Princess Kate requested ‘time and space’ as she underwent preventative chemotherapy treatment.
In a statement released today, the broadcaster acknowledged that “not everyone would have approved of the approach we took” and admitted they had received complaints from viewers who found the coverage ‘excessive and insensitive.'”We always give careful consideration to the editorial decisions we make. While we have a responsibility to report on stories that are of interest to our audience, we appreciate that not everyone would have approved of the approach we took.”
Kate’s video announcement aired on BBC One before the Six O Clock news, with broadcasts continuing to cover the breaking news story. The following morning, the BBC continued to document Kate’s update with reporters based outside Windsor Castle.
