Amanda Anisimova Storms Past Coco Gauff in 58 Minutes to Reach Beijing Final
Amanda Anisimova delivered one of her most dominant performances of the season, cruising past fellow American Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-2 in just 58 minutes in the semifinals of the Beijing Open.
From the opening game, Anisimova set the tone with her powerful groundstrokes and aggressive baseline play, breaking Gauff’s serve twice to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Gauff, who had been in fine form throughout the tournament, struggled to find rhythm against Anisimova’s relentless pace and precise shot-making.
The second set followed a similar pattern, as Anisimova continued to dictate rallies and punish short balls. Her first-serve percentage remained high, and she capitalized on nearly every break opportunity, leaving Gauff visibly frustrated.
The victory marks Anisimova’s first win over Gauff in their last three meetings and propels her into the Beijing final — her first WTA 1000 final since returning from a brief hiatus earlier in her career.
“I played some of my best tennis today,” Anisimova said in her post-match interview. “Coco is such a tough opponent, so I knew I had to be aggressive and stay focused from the start. I’m really happy with how I executed my game plan.”
Gauff, who came into the match on a six-match winning streak, congratulated her compatriot and noted that it simply wasn’t her day.
Anisimova will now await the winner of the second semifinal between Iga Świątek and Aryna Sabalenka as she looks to capture one of the biggest titles of her career.
