Robert Prevost, który 8 maja został papieżem Leonem XIV, jako kardynał publikował w mediach społecznościowych wpisy dotyczące polityki władz USA. W lutym tego roku Prevost odniósł się do słów wiceprezydenta Stanów Zjednoczonych J.D. Vance’a, który stwierdził, że chrześcijańska wizja miłości każe kochać w pierwszej kolejności swoją rodzinę, dalej lokalną społeczność, współobywateli, a dopiero na końcu stawiać miłość do reszty świata. “J.D. Vance się myli: Jezus nie prosi nas, abyśmy stopniowali naszą miłość do innych” – napisał na X Robert Prevost, który zacytował tym samym tytuł artykułu z “National Catholic Reporter”. Z kolei w 2015 roku Prevost zamieścił na X link do artykułu arcybiskupa Nowego Jorku z “The Washington Post” dotyczący działań Trumpa. Tytuł tego teksu brzmiał: “Kardynał Dolan: Dlaczego antyimigrancka retoryka Donalda Trumpa jest tak problematyczna”.
