Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are divorcing after two years of marriage.

The singer and entertainer filed for divorce from Affleck on Aug. 20, according to court documents obtained by TODAY.com. Lopez filed the paperwork at the Los Angeles Superior Court.

The couple did not have a prenup, according to a source close to the singer. The source confirmed to NBC News that Lopez filed without an attorney.

The date, Aug. 20, is significant in that it happens to be the anniversary of Affleck and Lopez’s second wedding in Georgia.

Reps for Lopez and Affleck did not immediately respond to TODAY.com’s request for comment.

The news comes after rumors swirled about a potential split and the two hadn’t been seen together as often, which reached a fever pitch after Lopez canceled her summer tour to be with loved ones.

Lopez and Live Nation announced the cancellation of the “This Is Me… Live” tour on May 31, less than a month before the tour was set to kick off in Orlando, Florida.

Live Nation said Lopez “is taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends.”

In a message sent through her newsletter, Lopez promised to “make it up” to fans.

“I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down. Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again,” she said, adding in closing, “Until next time…”

Affleck was also noticeably missing from her 55th “Bridgerton”-themed birthday party in July.

Affleck and Lopez aren’t necessarily new to speculation about their relationship.

The couple first met and became engaged in 2002, but broke up in 2004. Affleck went on to marry actor Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children. They separated in 2015 after 10 years of marriage and finalized their divorce in 2018.

Lopez married Marc Anthony in 2004 and welcomed twins with the singer in 2008. They divorced in 2014. Lopez was also previously married to actor Ojani Noa and dancer Cris Judd, and was engaged to former professional baseball player Alex Rodriguez.

Lopez and Affleck reconnected in 2021, the same year the singer and Rodriguez shared exclusively with TODAY that they had called off their engagement.

Lopez and Affleck’s rekindled relationship was one that fans and family celebrated. During a 2023 appearance on TODAY, Lopez’s mom, Guadalupe Rodríguez, told her that she always felt that her daughter and the actor were meant to be together.

“I knew that you would always get back together because I prayed for 20 years,” Rodríguez told Lopez on the show.

In 2022, Lopez shared in her newsletter, On the JLo, that she and Affleck were engaged. They married in July 2022 in an intimate Las Vegas wedding.
