Christian Brückner (48 l.) to główny podejrzany w sprawie zaginięcia Madeleine McCann. Niemieccy śledczy są przekonani, że mężczyzna porwał i zabił dziewczynkę w Praia da Luz w Portugalii w 2007 r. Do tej pory nie zdołali jednak zebrać wystarczających dowodów, by postawić mu zarzuty w tej sprawie. W czwartek 48-latek został doprowadzony do sądu w związku ze znieważeniem strażników więziennych. Dziennikarze “The Mirror” wykorzystali ten moment, by zadać mu zasadnicze pytanie: “Czy porwałeś Madelaine?” Reakcja Brücknera była bardzo wymowna. Posłał dziennikarzom lodowate spojrzenie.

Brückner został natomiast oskarżony o trzy gwałty i dwa przypadki molestowania seksualnego dzieci w latach 2000-2017 w Portugalii, w pobliżu kurortu Praia da Luz w Algarve, skąd Madeleine zniknęła podczas wakacji z rodzicami.
W październiku ub. r. sąd w Brunszwiku uniewinnił Brücknera ze wszystkich pięciu zarzutów. Oznacza to, że mężczyzna będzie mógł opuścić więzienie już w tym roku.
