The Eagles are being told they must pull Jason Kelce out of retirement as their season teeters on the edge of a full-blown collapse, with analysts, former players and desperate fans arguing that only his leadership, toughness and locker-room gravity can stop the spiral — a growing chorus that reflects just how fragile the team’s identity has become without the man who once held it together.
As the Philadelphia Eagles‘ season threatens to derail entirely, the franchise have been urged to bring former star Jason Kelce out of retirement.
The Eagles fell to a 22-19 defeat by the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night and, as a result, moved to 8-5 for the season after yet another disappointing performance.
Their ongoing struggles have seen fans grow extremely frustrated, with some even choosing to egg the $1.3million house of offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo.
During a recent ESPN broadcast, host’s Troy Aikman and Joe Buck were discussing the possibility of the former center strapping on his cleats again.
Buck said: ‘Maybe the Eagles, with these banged up interior offensive linemen can call on our friend, ole 38-year-old Jason Kelce’.
Aikman responded: ‘I would be surprised if they haven’t already at some point this year, even last year. He can still do it’.
Kelce, brother of Kansas City Chiefs star Travis, retired from the sport back in March 2024 before moving into a punditry and analyst role.
However, while fans may be keen on the idea of the 38-year-old returning to the field, they might need to reminded over Kelce’s dramatic weight loss since retiring.
Just months after hanging up his cleats, the former offensive lineman, who played most of his career at 295 pounds, told GQ that he was already down to 277.
‘Right now, I’m about 277,’ he said. ‘… It’s hard to imagine another nearly 20 pounds coming off, being honest with you. But my back already feels better.
‘My knees already feel better. So another 20 pounds hopefully will make that much more adept at playing with my children.’
However, in recent weeks, Kelce has shown he still has some level of athletic ability remaining – after videos emerged of him wrestling an Eagles fan prior to a game.
Jason and New Heights, the podcast he shares with his brother Travis , hosted a special Black Friday tailgate in the parking lot of the Linc – including free entry on a first-come, first-served basis.
