W poniedziałek 14 kwietnia TV Republika zorganizowała pierwszą (i najprawdopodobniej nie ostatnią) debatę prezydencką. Udziału w wydarzeniu nie wzięli m.in. Rafał Trzaskowski i Magdalena Biejat, ale nie miało to negatywnego wpływu na oglądalność. Stacja zarządzana przez Tomasza Sakiewicza pochwaliła się właśnie informacją o pobitym rekordzie.
Wokół TV Republika nie brakuje kontrowersji i zarzutów o brak dziennikarskiego obiektywizmu, stacja co rusz otrzymuje także nowe grzywny od KRRiT. Podobne głosy krytyki nie odbijają się jednak na oglądalności prawicowej telewizji, która już nieraz przeskakiwała TVN24 w rankingu najpopularniejszych telewizji informacyjnych.
Za kolejny powód do publicznego chwalenia się włodarze Republiki uznali wysoką oglądalność “niepełnej” debaty prezydenckiej. W transmitowanym dodatkowo na kanale wPolsce24 spotkaniu nie wzięła udziału część kandydatów, w tym Rafał Trzaskowski i Magdalena Biejat. Liderujący sondażom kandydat Koalicji Obywatelskiej został wykpiony na TV Republika antenie za pomocą tekturowej repliki.

Jak wynika z danych Nielsen Audience Measurment, w trakcie debaty Republikę śledziło średnio 2,36 mln widzów. Przełożyło się to na ponad 12 proc. udziału w rynku — stacja wyprzedziła w tym okresie TVP2, TVP1, Polsat, TVN24 i TVN. Wspomniany wynik jest dla TV Republika rekordem, o czym poinformował Jarosław Olechowski. Od poprzedniego nie minęło zresztą dużo czasu, bo 11 kwietnia kanał zebrał 10,83 proc. udziału w rynku.
