Este rumor se compartió en Facebook después de un anuncio en video del 22 de marzo en el que Kate reveló que le habían diagnosticado cáncer y que estaba recibiendo quimioterapia. La noticia siguió al diagnóstico de cáncer del propio rey Carlos III, que fue revelado por el Palacio de Buckingham el 5 de febrero.
“En enero me sometí a una importante cirugía abdominal en Londres y, en ese momento, se pensó que mi condición no era cancerosa”, dijo Kate en el video. “La cirugía fue exitosa. Sin embargo, las pruebas posteriores a la operación detectaron que había cáncer. Por lo tanto, mi equipo médico me recomendó que me sometiera a un tratamiento de quimioterapia preventiva”.
En cuanto al rumor sobre William, las publicaciones de Facebook que promocionaban el supuesto “triste anuncio” eran engañosas, falsas, fraudulentas y obsoletas.
Las publicaciones de Facebook condujeron a varios artículos sobre la familia real. Estos artículos no fueron publicados en los principales sitios web de noticias con los que los lectores pueden estar familiarizados. La mejor manera de describir estos sitios web sería con palabras como “extraño”, “sin vida” y “poco confiable”. Además, algunos de los sitios web mostraban anuncios emergentes y otro malware, lo que tal vez indica que el objetivo de algunas de las publicaciones de Facebook era estafar a los usuarios.
