Wimbledon 2024: Roland-Garros champions Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek eye Paris-London double – preview, schedule & how to watch

This year in professional tennis, it’s the Paris-London-Paris shuffle.

Fresh off Roland-Garros earlier this month, the best in the sport head to the All-England Club for its most famed event, Wimbledon. The Championships, as they’re known, get underway on Monday (1 July), with French Open champions Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek looking to go back-to-back at the two majors.

Players will return to Stade Roland-Garros for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 tennis event, set to get underway on 27 July. It marks the first time that Olympic tennis will be played on clay since Barcelona 1992.

Alcaraz, the 21-year-old Spaniard, stunned Novak Djokovic across five sets in a memorable final a year ago on Wimbledon’s Centre Court, and is seeking a fourth major singles title after his win in Paris earlier this month.

Alcaraz’s compatriot, Rafael Nadal, has opted out of Wimbledon, and instead is readying his body for a go at Paris 2024, where he’ll play doubles alongside Alcaraz.

Djokovic is also tending to his body after revealing a torn meniscus that he sustained during his fourth round match at the French. He had surgery and has been back on the grass this week at SW19, saying he’ll only play if he’

Who to watch at Wimbledon: Jannik Sinner, Ons Jabeur and more
World No.1 Jannik Sinner is looking strong on the natural surface after his win in Halle, Germany, last week. It was his first on grass.

Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, Hubert Hurkacz, Alex De Minaur and Queen’s Club champion Tommy Paul are others to watch at Wimbledon, too.

On the women’s side, Swiatek, the Pole, has been open about her struggles on grass, but says she is growing increasingly confident on the slick surface. She made the semi-finals a year ago, ousted by surprise champion Marketa Vondrousova of Czechia.

There’s a myriad of contenders for the women, including two-time runner-up Ons Jabeur, 2022 champion Elena Rybakina, world No.2 Coco Gauff, Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka and the runner-up in Melbourne, Zheng Qinwen of the People’s Republic of China. Four-time major champ Naomi Osaka continues her comeback on tour – leading a host of mums in the sport.

British eyes will be on Emma Raducanu, the surprise US Open champion in 2021, who has shown strong form recently, as well as Jack Draper, who stunned Alcaraz at Queen’s last week. Andy Murray, the two-time Wimbledon and Olympic champion, is looking to be fit in time after suffering an injury at Queen’s
